Cheerleading Information

We are proud to introduce Youth Cheerleading to our leaguefor the 2018 season!

Age/Eligibility: Youth ages 6-14 (Kindergarten-8th grade) are eligible to participate in the Cheer program, with the exception of those who have graduated from 8th grade or turn 15 by September 1st of the current year.

Program: OPRF Youth Cheerleading is part of The Chicagoland Youth Football League (TCYFL) and is a travel league. Cheerleading squads are determined by age and enrollment. We anticipate 2 squads for the 2018 season, youth ages 6-9 and youth ages 10-14. Cheer squads will be assigned to support one or more OPRFYF football teams. There are no tryouts for the Cheer squad and no experience needed. Our trained and certified coaches will teach your child the fundamentals of Cheer.

Practice/Expectations: Practice will begin August 1st. Your Cheer coach will determine the practice schedule, but anticipate 2-3 practices a week, approx. 5:30-7:30pm.

Cheer is a team sport. However, unlike other team sports, if one team member is not at a game or practice, the entire group will suffer. Every cheerleader is an important and integral member of the team and is expected to be committed and respectful to their coaches and teammates. Cheerleaders are expected to attend all practices and assigned games.

Cheerleaders will be asked to wear athletic shorts or leggings, gym shoes and tank top or t-shirt for practice.

Football Games: Cheer squads will cheer for the OPRF Youth Football teams. Squads will cheer for all home games and selected away games. Home games are played on Sundays at the OPRF High School Stadium. Away games are played on either Saturday or Sunday at locations throughout the Chicagoland area. The football schedule is available online at . TCYFL is a 49 town conference. Teams play 1 pre-season scrimmage, 9 regular season games with an opportunity to play 3 post season games.

Squads will cheer in all weather.

Please plan to cheer every weekend beginning the end of August-mid-November.

Competitions: OPRF Youth Cheerleading will not be participating in cheer competitions this season.

Fees: The fee for the 2018 Youth Cheerleading season will be $300.00. (Payment plans and scholarships available.)
